In August of 1963, over 200,00 people arrived in Washington DC, for the "March on Washington"to demand jobs, freedom, and equality. Marchers heard Marin Luther King Jr. give his famous,"I Have a Dream" speech. Today, Washington DC is the site of the of many important civil rights moments in history.
The march was organized by The Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters. They hoped to bring national attention to the struggle for civil and economic rights and equality. Six leaders of different faiths and races spoke that day.
